Deformation twin interactions with grain boundary particles in multi-phase magnesium alloys

چکیده

Deformation twinning is necessary for achieving strain in plastically hard directions magnesium alloys under ambient conditions, but can also contribute to void formation and crack propagation that lead early failure. This especially true instances of twin transmission between grains, which result longer continuous boundaries higher volume fractions. Coarse grain boundary particles have the potential modify behavior, this effect has not been studied. work uses a Crystal Plasticity – Fast Fourier Transform model predict behavior likelihood, parameterized simulate different morphologies β-phase intermetallic common Mg-Al alloys. Of these microstructures, those with directly path impingement were found decrease stresses generated neighboring grain, similarly decreasing likelihood across boundary. Size aspect ratio play key roles determining resultant stress, are dependent upon orientation grain. Particles located near site exacerbate stress state make more likely. Instances where was likely be prevented predicted undergo reduced thickening.

Clean Grain Boundary Found in C14/Body-Center-Cubic Multi-Phase Metal Hydride Alloys

The grain boundaries of three Laves phase-related body-center-cubic (bcc) solid-solution, metal hydride (MH) alloys with different phase abundances were closely examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and more importantly, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) techniques. By using EBSD, we were able to identify the alignment of the crystallograp...

Grain-Boundary Sliding in AZ31 Magnesium Alloys at Room Temperature to 523K

Rolled sheets of AZ31 Mg alloys were subjected to tensile testing at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 523K. The occurrence of grain-boundary sliding (GBS) at room temperature was demonstrated by the displacement of scribed lines across grain boundaries of deformed samples. Surface relief of deformed samples was measured by use of a scanning laser microscope. GBS strain was calculat...

Developing grain boundary diagrams for multicomponent alloys

Impurity-based, premelting-like, intergranular films (IGFs, a common type of grain boundary complexion) can form in various materials and influence sintering, creep, and microstructure development. A thermodynamic framework is presented to forecast the formation and stability of these premelting-like grain boundary complexions (a.k.a. interfacial “phases” that are thermodynamically two dimensio...
